The Kinks, Waterloo Sunset

I was just internet stalking (this is what I call looking people up on the internetz) Terence Stamp and saw this: “The off-screen romance of Stamp and Julie Christie while they were filming Far from the Madding Crowd (1967) inspired The Kinks’ hit, “Waterloo Sunset” - hence the line “Terry met Julie”.” Ray Davies says it’s not true but Ray Davies is a grumpy old liar (met him once in Cleveland, remember).

He went on a 10 year sabbatical to India after Jean Shrimpton left him. Sort of heartbreaking.

All this to proclaim my love for Terence Stamp as of today. Some people just get better as they age.

Woolie is now hearby declared citizen of Heartburn Nation for loving this song and Terence Stamp. (And I grew up not far from the East River in New York.  In good weather, when I was 7-10 years old, my dad used to take me for a walk down at the park by the East River Drive almost every evening after dinner. That memory and the memory of this song will always be mixed.)
